I made a deal with myself that I couldn't get a new camera until I had a job.

The number of words I need to explain this post?

(Mental note: Clear the table before taking photos)

Pictured: Nikon Coolpix P510.  In red.

Well they say a picture tells a thousand of them, so the number of words on this particular post would be 4 x 10^3.

But I think that a simple "Squee!" would suffice, and 1 is approximately none, so you're probably right.

Take some lovely pics for your blog so we can see what it can do! I know! Take photos of the device you took these photos WITH. Pay it back.

Niiiiiice! And a gorgeous colour, of course. :) DSLR or digital?

Will the beautiful red enhance the resulting photographs do you think? It looks VERY smart and well worth the wait [and the job].

I'm certain that the colour will mean that it takes photos more quickly, after all, red cars go faster.

It's a bridge camera, which means that it is not DSLR, and the lens is not interchangeable, but it has more grunt than the usual compact camera. I will see how much I end up using the features that allow me to set stuff, because I have a sneaking suspicion that a DSLR would be wasted on me.

I was precluded from the more compact compact cameras due to my absolute, deal-breaking need to have a viewfinder.

Played with it at Grandad's 90th birthday party today and the 42x optical zoom that I thought was a bit gimmicky was very useful for my attempts at stealth portraiture. (or at least, it was once I turned the sound off)

Wow. My only stipulation for our current camera is that it must bounce well on tiles.

It does, but the pictures it takes aren't fantastic. It's a sad trade-off.
